Recycled sari wool and cotton kilim rug natural/multi, 120 x 180cm
• HANDLOOM KILIMS
• Traditionally made handloom rugs and cushions, made in India for Namaste on a fair trade basis by a company that was established in 1976. A high wool content allows vibrancy and depth of colour and also allows greater detail to be incorporated into the design. The highly skilled weavers use either one of the looms in the weaving factory or supplement income with weaving income earned in their own home on looms provided by the exporter. The pattern and raw materials are provided to the weavers and payment is made on collection. Kilim production is a skilled art which is passed down from generation to generation and the work attracts good rates of pay. The business provides valued employment to just over than 15 people directly and a further 40 on a self-employed piecework basis. Direct employees benefit from paid holidays, sick pay and subsidised medical care. Dyes used are environmentally friendly "eco-dyes”.
